Chapter 16: You Are Not Your Own

A sermon about race. Black means bad, white means bad. A black person lives in that set of definitions and it has to have an effect.

Racism is essentially the feeling that there is not enough for everyone so the dominant culture drives down other cultures in order to assure they have their share.

But, Jesus had the opposite message. “… Jesus displays that the true gifts of God—life, love, forgiveness, resurrection, the Holy Spirit—these are gifts that never run out. They’re not in short supply. The more we share them, the more of them there is.”

“Racism is exposed as a logic of fear that rests on the assumption that the God of Jesus Christ does not exist. Racism is about finding a security and an identity other than the security and identity found in God. It is, in the end, a form of atheism.”

To fight racism, it is important outbuild personal relationships with people of different races.
