Embarking

Introduction: Embarking

The purpose of this book is to change the paradigm for engaging the Bible in a Christian community. We need to switch from small readings to bib readings.

Why Does the Bible Need to Be Saved? Bible sales continue high, but biblical literacy is dreadful.Bible are published to answer questions, but not to focus on the whole message. "We might be swimming in millions of Bibles, but we are not a Scripture-soaked society.” Many people view the Bible as a lood-it-up answer guide to their problems. The truth is the Bible is not easy. "Widespread positive assessment of the Bible combined with widespread ignorance of it amounts to the maintenance of a hollow cultural icon of the past and nothing more.”

How Can We Save the Bible from Ourselves? We need more Bibles, all new understanding of the Bible—seven of them to precise. We need to be attentive to two key questions: What is the Bible? And what are we supposed to do with it?

There and Back Again: The Plan of This Good. “… the proposed recovery of the Bible— a Bible that is presented as literature, eaten in natural forms, grounded in history, inviting in its narrative, restorative in its theme, engaged in community, and honored in its aesthetic presentation.”

Ending with Love.  We have to find out the bb meant to say before we take it over with attempts to make it say what we want it say.
