The gospel lesson for today (in all 3 cycles of the lectionary) is about Jesus being tempted in the dessert. Rohr likens the temptations he faced to the fundamental temptations we all face at times in our lives. They are all misuse of power (everyday, religious, and political power). They all had a component of good.

As leaders in the church, we have to alert to the temptation to use our religious power to lead the church in directions that are personal, and not in God’s plan. (BTW, I’m not suggesting we are.) It is only by facing that temptation like Jesus did that we can resist and hear God’s plan.
