Chap. 3

The Abba of the Jesus Creed.

Mcknight's dad told him this truth: "My father golfed only occasionally, but one time he told me this golfing truth: 'If you hit the ball straight, you will have better scores.'" While this is absolutely true, integrating it into your golf game is not so easy. The big truth in the Bible is that God loves us. That is easy to say, but hard to absorb.

Abba, Father. Jesus chose Abba to address his prayers to evoke the image of unconditional love. None of us had perfect parents, and some have had very imperfect parents, so it can be hard to understand this concept. Still, Jesus and God love me unconditionally and that fact, combined with my love back to him, is a powerful combination.

Abba Welcomes a Son Back. The parable of the prodigal son is what the Jesus Creed looks like in story form.

Absorbing the Truth. What can we do to absorb the truth of God's love.

  1. Open my hear to God's love. Be still and focus on God's love.
  2. Repeat during the day a short prayer reminder, "Father, thanks you for loving me."
  3. Practice at least one action of God's love each day. One way is to deflect our self deprecation by focusing on God's love.
