17: Do What to Our Whats?

Bell discusses the point of circumcision and why it was important in old times. But, when Greeks and Romans were told they had to be circumcised to Christian, there was response must have been something like the chapter title.
The Bible has to be read as it was written and understand that it has a historical context. But, you can’t take transport what they were saying to now and assume it is still applicable.
“When Paul talks about circumcision, he explains it as something meaningful at that time, something that served its purpose, something that pointed forward to what was coming.
It wasn’t wrong; it was then.
And then is not now.
So when people take then and try to make it now, they’re missing the point, working against the fundamental orientation of this library we call the Bible.”
