Chap. 18

Chap. 18: Interceding: Poverty and Prayer
Kelly S. Johnson

We pray every week for the same things. Do we really expect that it makes any difference?

Prayer and our Habits of Exchange. Various models for why people pray, none of which are good theology.ONe that is theologically defensible is that prayer is like begging. But even that leads to issues.

Intercession in the Liturgy. In the liturgy, prayer is after gathering, confessing, and hearing the word. It is almost like asking for an encore.

Christian Unity and Intercession. "Amont Christians, to pry for each other's needs it to take the other's need on as one's own because it is taking part in Christ's intercession and this is what he does."Intercessory prayer is the act of the church united and committed to bearing one another's burdens. Praying for the poor is problematical, because it may indicate that the poor are somewhere else and not part of the body.
