Chap. 5: Justice.Life

How Bono changed Bill Hybel's attitude.

We're Wobbling. The church wobbles along, espousing doctrines and then ignoring their implications. As a result, people are leaving the faith, and especially the church because of the "Church-ianity." Jesus was for the proper use of power, for justice, and for the value of everyone. When we distill the kingdom to an inner experience, we have missed the point.

Tom and HopeChest. How a lung youth pastor was convicted by a verse in James to help orphans.

Why Did Jesus Come? Jesus did come to save us from our sins, but that it is only a part of why he came.

His First Public Sermon: Luke 4:16-21. Jesus uses the words of Isaiah to give his job description--to proclaim good news to the poor…

His Famous Sermon: Luke 6:20-26. There are people who are "in"—the poor, the hungry, the persecuted— and people who are "out"—the rich, the well fed, the complacent.

His Answer to a Prophet: Luke 7:20-23. He repeats again his theme. Scott says, "Jesus came to bring justice by building the kingdom society on earth beginning right now with you and with me."

What About His Death? He died, at least in part, as a ransom for many and to bring God's kingdom to earth.

But You Must Be Saying … The answer to the question is now:  "A Christian is someone who flows Jesus by devoting his or her One.Life to the kingdom of God, fired by Jesus' own imagination, to a life of loving God and loving others, and to a society shaped by justice, especially for those who have been marginalized."
