Chap 35: Being Silent ...

Being Silent: Time in the Spirit

Michael S. Northcott

Time is a precious commodity in the modern world. Our pursuit of the machines which “save us time” has had the opposite effect—we have little time to contemplate and enjoy. The Taizé community uses chants after the Eucharist to allow meditation and contemplation. The three headings of this chapter are from the Taizé book of chants.

Maranatha: Veni Domine. In the Eucharist Christians celebrate that they are living in a new time, the time between the Ascension and the parousia.

Surrexit Dominus Vere. Time, the Eucharist, and the Sabbath.

Veni Sancte Spiritus.
