Cosmic Courtroom Scenes

Both of the texts are courtroom scenes in a way. In the OT, Moses argues for the people of Israel after they built the golden calf. In the end, God relents from his desire to destroy them. This portrays God as relational and changeable. As Rohr points out, would you really want a God that was fixed and unchangeable? If He was, then why bother praying at all?

Rohr says, "The secret in biblical prayer is always to expect God to be true to God’s own name, identity, and patterns of goodness in the past, and not just begging God to conform to my immediate ego needs. Prayer, more than anything, seeks, creates, and preserves relationship— which is always both giving and receiving."
