“… for Luke the mission of the church could not hope to be effective without this empowering from God (the Spirit of God) which transcends human ability and transforms human inability.”
WORDS THAT CLARIFY THE MEANING OF THE SPIRIT. The Spirit as breath and breath’s connection with life. The Spirit is not a Pentecost revelation. The Spirit is infused in the OT (Ezekiel 37 and the dry bones for example).
THE SPIRIT ARRIVES FRESH. In Jesus’s conversation with Nicodemus, Jesus claims the power of God to create through the power of the Holy Spirit.
CONVERSION IS A GRADUAL WORK OF THE SPIRIT. The gradual work of the Holy Spirit compared to the rebuilding of the Chicago Cubs.
THE NIGHT TIME VISITOR. The example of Nicodemus and the work of the Spirit on him.
Scot’s prayer.
“Lord, I am open to the Holy Spirit.
Come to me, dwell in me, speak to me
so I may become more like Christ.
Lord, give me the courage to be open.
Lord, I am open to the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
