Chapter 4: OPEN TO THE GOD WHO SPEAKS IN THE WRITTEN WORD

God is a person, and the Bible is paper.

SPIRIT, BIBLE AND BIBLE, SPIRIT. Focusing on the Bible too much or the Spirit too much is bad. The Spirit is with everyone who read the Bible.

THE BIBLE AND THE SPIRIT. The Bible is both Spirit-generated and Spirit-breathing.

HOW TO READ A BIBLE THAT IS GOD-SPIRITED. The Spirit gras us where we are and takes into the presence of God.

ENTERING INTO SPIRIT HERMENEUTICS. 

  • Read with others.
  • Intentionally reverent.
  • Prayerfully. 
  • “Blessed Lord, who has caused all Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.”
  • Listening. Be open to the let the Bible takes us where the Bible goes.
  • Ponder.
  • Respond.
